Babe Ruth’s Called Home Run on Ink Blotter
Description
A slide of a color drawn image of Babe Ruth, hitting his famous "called shot" in the 1932 baseball World Series. In the rendition Ruth is depicted in the batter's box in his swing follow-through. His right food is forward as he starts toward first base, pushing off of his left foot which is next to home plate. His bat is perpendicular to the ground with the barrel of the bat above his shoulders. The catcher is seen in a three-quarter high stance looking out to the field. The drawing is on one of a series of ink blotter cards known as "Grantland Rice's Roll of Champions", which is written on the top of the card. A caption below the image reads: "The '32 series between the Yankees and Cubs brought much excitement but none to compare with the dramatic moment when Babe Ruth 'called' that home run. It's on its way and so is The Babe. To the right of the drawing is written "GREAT LAKES MFG. & FOUNDARY CO. WYANDOTTE, MICHIGAN GRAY IRON CASTING". Note that the catcher cannot be definitively identified in the drawing, however, Gabby Hartnett was the Chicago Cubs catcher in this World Series game. Written on the physical slide is: "1932 World Series HR blotter".
