Ted Williams Portraits in February 1961 Sport Magazine
Description
A color slide of page 52 of the February 1961 edition of Sport magazine. The page was part of a feature article titled “The Kid’s Last Game.” Ted Williams is shown holding a bat in two photographs. The smaller photograph on the upper-left side of the page shows a younger Williams pictured from the chest up. He is smiling and holding the bat in the middle with both hands, just below his chin. He is wearing a Boston Red Sox cap, but it is unclear whether he is wearing a home or road uniform. This photograph has a blue background and dates from around 1949. The larger photograph on the lower-right side of the page shows an older Williams, also from the chest up. He is looking at the camera with a serious expression and holding the bat with both hands, with the bat extending over his left shoulder. He is wearing a Boston Red Sox cap and home uniform. The photograph has a yellow background and dates from around 1960. The caption on the page reads, “In his younger days, the vigor and enthusiasm heightening age his face, Williams admitted he owned one big ambition. ‘When I’m walking down a street,’ he said, ‘I want people to say, “There goes the greatest hitter who ever lived.” ‘ At the end, with the seasons of success and concern etched in his matured features, Ted had come close to fulfilling his dream.” Below the caption is a photo credit: “Color by Ozzie Sweet.” The magazine issue is copyrighted by Macfadden Publications, Inc.
