Mickey Mantle Heads for First Base in 1955 World Series

Description

A slide of a black-and-white photograph from Game 4 of the 1955 World Series of Mickey Mantle (right) leaving the left-handed batter's box heading toward first base at Ebbets Field. He is leaning towards first, watching the ball, with the bat in his right hand pointing perpendicular to his path about at knee level. He is wearing a New York Yankees road uniform. Behind him, still in the catcher's box but standing just about upright with arms at his side, is Roy Campanella (left), looking down the third base side of the field. The photograph is from the first base side of the field, so both are seen full-length in profile with their right side visible. Information written on the physical slide reads, "Roy Campanella (L) Mickey Mantle" See mantlmii01_143.
