Description

A slide of a black-and-white photograph of Jerry Coleman throwing to first base as he leaps above a sliding Jim Hegan.  The baseball that Coleman has thrown is visible in the photograph. Hegan is on his right side in a cloud of dust and is looking back toward first base. He is wearing a Cleveland Indians road uniform. Coleman and Phil Rizzuto, who is lying on the ground in the background, are both wearing New York Yankees home uniforms. Umpire Frank Umont is in the background with his fist in the air, making an out sign. The play occurred on June 3, 1954, during the ninth inning at Yankee Stadium. The photograph is reversed.
