Joe DiMaggio October 3, 1937 Sunday Mirror Cover

Description

A color slide of Joe DiMaggio, seen in a posed batting position on the cover of the October 3, 1937, Sunday Mirror magazine. DiMaggio is wearing a New York Yankees home uniform and is visible from the waist up. He is swinging the baseball bat seen over his left shoulder with his body twisting to his left toward the camera. He is looking upwards. The caption reads, "Another World Series - And Ruth's Successor Note the powerful muscles of the right forearm of Joe DiMaggio, 1937 home run king of the World Series defending New York Yankees and all major baseball. DiMaggio is a "scrist hitter," planting his two feet flat and wide apart and meeting the ball with a short, choppy blow and with almost no preliminary wagging or brandishing. The home-run monarch he succeeds, Babe Ruth, was his absolute antithesis - Hit left-handed, held his feet together, started his bat way back over his shoulder and swung with a mighty swish which utilized his shoulders, back and hips. Joe ended his season, to be followed by the World Series this week, as the leading slugging threat of the Yankees.
