Lou Gehrig the Day He Played His 2000th Consecutive Game May 31, 1938

Description

A slide of a black-and-white photograph of Lou Gehrig standing in the dugout facing the field. Gehrig's left foot rests on the dugout's top step with his knee bent. His right leg is on the dugout floor. He is on the left side of the image facing to his right and slightly toward the camera. He is smiling. He holds two baseball bats with both hands in front of him. He is wearing Yankee home pinstripes uniform and has a "NY" logo on the crown of his cap. The photograph is during the daytime. There are three figures to the right of the frame facing to the right. Two are holding cameras and wearing fedoras. One is smoking a cigarette. Behind this group is another person wearing a baseball uniform. Next to Gehrig, on his left, is an unidentified teammate, wearing a pinstripe uniform and holding a bat. That teammate is looking off to his left. A catcher's mitt is lying on the field atop some bats in front of Gehrig. The photograph caption found outside of the collection reads, "Lou Gehrig 2000th Consecutive Game NEW YORK - MAY 31, 1938. Lou Gehrig, first baseman for the New York Yankees, poses on the dugout steps of Yankee Stadium shortly before he plays in his 2000th consecutive game." See gehrilo01_72.jpg.
