Eleanor Gehrig Poses with Trophies 1974

Description

A slide of a black-and-white photograph of Eleanor Gehrig from the hips up. Mrs. Gehrig was the widow of the late Lou Gehrig. She is on the left of the image, smiling at the camera and holding a trophy in her right hand. Her right arm is bending at the elbow across her waist. She is wearing a dress with puffy sleeves and a collar open at the neck. Behind her is an open cabinet with curved glass panes doors. To her left in the cabinet are other trophies and plates. The caption to the left of the photograph reads: "ADVANCED AMS TUESDAY APRIL 30 WITH GEHRIG STORY BY ANDY LIPPMAN (NY16) NEW YORK, April 27--SHINING REMINDERS--Eleanor Gehrig, widow of baseball's Lou Gehrig, shows trophies she keeps at her home in New York. She says that although Gehrig left baseball because he was suffering from a disease called amyotrophic lateral schlerosis [sic] he had promised her when they were married that he would quit when he was 35, which was when his condition was first diagnosed.
