Description

A color slide of a photograph from the June 1955 edition of Sport magazine of Eddie Mathews kneeling on his left knee. The photograph accompanies the article "Has Mathews Grown Up?" by Furman Bisher. Mathews is visible from the mid-thigh of his left leg up. He is wearing a Milwaukee Braves uniform with a zipper. He faces the camera with his gaze slightly to his left and holds a baseball bat across his body. His right arm is bent at the elbow with his right hand on the knob of the bat and his left arm extended down with his left hand gripping the barrel of the bat about midway down with the head of the bat resting on the ground. Mathews is kneeling behind home plate on the first base side of the field. A partial side view of another player is behind him on the right edge of the photograph. It is at Milwaukee County Stadium during the day. The opposite page rolled up of the magazine is visible on the left side of the photo. Information written on the slide reads, "6/55"
