Ex-Red Sox OF Rick Miller Speaks to Packed Audience at Seymour-Mills Chapter Meeting

Former major-leaguer Rick Miller has perhaps one of the most unenviable distinctions in baseball.
No, it doesn’t involve hitting into triple plays or grounders between the legs. His is much worse — and far scarier.
Miller, who played 15 seasons in the big leagues, mostly for the Boston Red Sox, was the only player Nolan Ryan admitted to throwing at — and hitting — intentionally.
That was just one of the many nuggets Miller, who began his baseball career in 1971 and now lives in Bonita Springs, shared Monday at a meeting of Dorothy Seymour Mills Chapter of the Society for American Baseball Research.
Speaking to a packed auditorium at the Collier County Public Library headquarters, Miller recalled his showdown with Ryan, considered one of baseball’s hardest throwers.
