Gardner-Waterman Vermont Chapter meeting recap – 11/12/2011
The Gardner-Waterman (Vermont) Chapter of SABR set its all-time attendance record on November 12 when thirty-three people attended the fall meeting at the Three Stallion Inn in Randolph. Among the attendees were eleven new SABR members under the age of twelve, adding new energy to an already vibrant chapter.
Guest speakers were Randolph native Josh Wilker, who read excerpts from his wonderful book Cardboard Gods, and Benjamin Pomerance, a law student who made an impressive PowerPoint presentation on Jackie Robinson’s season in Montreal.
During the break, many of the members played “pickle” on the beautiful lawn behind the Three Stallion Inn, and after the meeting they participated in a game of baseball as the sun was setting behind the mountains. Then nearly everyone attended Buster Olney’s “Going to Bat for Vermont Farmers” event at Vermont Technical College featuring Galen Carr, Brian Cashman, Theo Epstein and Neil Huntington, and two of our young members were among those who asked questions of the panel.
Having attended every one of the Chapter’s events since its inception in 1993, I can honestly say that this was my favorite.
