A 1986 Card Collectors 1951 Bowman Reprint baseball card of Sam Chapman. The back of card number 9 in the set reads, "Sam Chapman Outfield - Philadelphia Athletics Born: Tiburon, Calif., April 11, 1916 Height: 6 ft. Weight: 180 Bats: Right Throws: Right Sam's 1950 batting average was only .251, but his base knocks included 23 home runs. Sam is one of the few players who never was in the minors. He came directly to the A's from college in 1938, and - with time out for Uncle Sam - has been with them ever since. His best season was 1941, when he hit .322 and drove in 106 runs.
