External Relations Officer

The Society for American Baseball Research is seeking an External Relations Officer (ERO) to lead organizational efforts to partner, collaborate, and engage with industry, educational, and civic institutions while reporting to and partnering with the Chief Executive Officer. A new position in the organization, this leader will play a pivotal role in building the external relations function. As our ERO, you will collaborate with other organizational leaders including the staff, Board of Directors, committee chairs, chapter board members, and more to advance SABR’s relationships in pursuit of our vision to become the essential community for the world of baseball. This position will interact with all aspects of the organization in order to communicate with external partners and develop creative new relationships.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with industry, educational, and civic institutions; including baseball teams, museums, libraries, colleges and universities, and foundations to advance organizational objectives, including membership growth
- Collaborate with staff, Board of Directors, and members to build an organizational relationship map and identify key strategic partners
- Develop and implement an internal communications structure and strategy along with other staff members to effectively communicate strategic partnerships and how they benefit SABR members
- Support the CEO in creating and executing the organizational strategy including assessing strategic initiatives to be in line with the organization’s standards and objectives
- Develop strong relationships with and secure the trust and confidence of board members, staff, volunteers, and others critical to organizational efforts
- Generate new ideas that expand member benefits and SABR’s reach
- Report on department progress to the CEO
- Manage and develop membership growth markets as instructed
- Travel, as necessary, to visit key strategic partners
- Recruit, train, and support key volunteers to assist in external relationship efforts
- Communicate organizational partnerships to members and equip staff and volunteers with the tools to execute them
- Collaborate with and support other full-time staff in the execution of SABR national events
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- Two-plus years of experience in a relationship-focused position with external partners (sales, development, PR, or similar)
- Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, leadership, and communication skills
- Ability to build collaborative ventures with diverse constituencies and manage diverse volunteer groups
- Outstanding skills in relationship building, public speaking, multi-tasking, and innovation
- Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to inspire, influence and motivate people
- Ability to convey a vision of the organization’s strategic future to staff, board, volunteers and an external audience
- Outstanding knowledge and skills related to MS Office, Google Suite, and Mac office products
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of SABR
- Experience working with volunteers
- Experience in a non-profit, membership organization
- Experience in the baseball industry
Job Status: Full-Time
Compensation: $75,000 – $90,000
