SABR Member Benefit Spotlight: Accessing the Weiss Baseball Questionnaires
APRIL 10, 2025 — As a SABR member, you have vast resources and benefits at your disposal. With so much information at your fingertips, we realize it can be overwhelming to absorb it all! To highlight key benefits, read on for this month’s SABR Member Benefit Spotlight, an email series that identifies and explains some of the most valuable features of your membership. We hope this allows you to take full advantage of all SABR has to offer. Today’s issue highlights the newest addition to our Research Collection: the Weiss Baseball Questionnaires.
The SABR Research Collection is home to 50+ years of groundbreaking baseball research, and we are excited to launch a new collection — exclusively online for SABR members — of the Weiss Baseball Questionnaires. This archive of nearly 100,000 self-completed surveys of professional baseball players, compiled over six decades by longtime SABR member William J. Weiss, is now available at SABR.org/weiss-baseball-questionnaires.
The Weiss Baseball Questionnaires provide comprehensive information on dozens of future Hall of Famers and notable baseball figures on their lives and baseball careers. In addition to biographical details, the forms also include schools attended, signing scouts, offseason hobbies and jobs, memorable on-field experiences, and military service. These surveys were sent out and compiled by Weiss between 1945 to 2005.
As this collection is only available to SABR members, you must first log into your profile to view the questionnaires. Click here to login and start browsing. Once you’re logged in, use the search bar at the top of the Weiss Questionnaires page to begin looking through the archive. Once you’ve found a questionnaire you would like to read, you can click on the image to zoom in, or refer to the fields to the right of the image for some of the information filled out on the survey.
