Mark Armour, Richard J. Puerzer win 2025 McFarland-SABR Baseball Research Awards

SABR logoThe 2025 winners of the McFarland-SABR Baseball Research Award, which honors the best articles on baseball history or biography completed or published during the preceding calendar year, are:

Armour is the President of SABR’s Board of Directors and the founder of SABR’s Baseball Biography Project and Baseball Cards Committee.

Puerzer, a SABR member since 1992, is the chair of the Department of Engineering at Hofstra University. His writing on baseball has appeared in numerous SABR books, as well as in Nine: A Journal of Baseball History and Culture; Black Ball; The National Pastime; The Cooperstown Symposium on Baseball and American Culture proceedings; Zisk; and Spitball

The McFarland-SABR Baseball Research Award honors the author(s) of the best articles or papers, published or unpublished, on baseball history or biography completed during the preceding calendar year. Eligible works include magazine and journal articles, previously unpublished chapters or articles in anthologies or other books with multiple authors, and unpublished research papers and written versions of oral presentations.

The selection committee included Barbara Mantegani (chair), Stephanie Liscio, Roberta J. Newman, and Allen Tait.
