The Best of By the Numbers Now Available
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) has recently published The Best of By the Numbers, a collection of essays by SABR’s Statistical Analysis Committee.

Each essay has an introduction, with “celebrity” introductions by Bill James (consultant for Boston Red Sox), Rob Neyer (ESPN.com columnist), Mat Olkin (Sports Weekly), Jayson Stark (Philadelphia Inquirer) and others. Essays include, Does Good Hitting Beat Good Pitching? by Tom Hanrahan and Winning Streaks, Losing Streaks, and Predicting Team Performance by Keith Karcher.
The essays in this book originally appeared over the past fifteen years in By the Numbers, the newsletter of SABR’s Statistical Analysis Committee. Published quarterly, By the Numbers features original and wide-ranging statistical studies on baseball.
