1919 Box Scores Now Available At Baseball-Reference.com
Fans and scholars of the Deadball Era will be pleased to note that 1919 box scores, game logs and splits were added this week to the comprehensive database at Baseball-Reference.com, founded by SABR member Sean Forman, who recently was named as a recipient of the Henry Chadwick Award.

Among the notable games to check out:
- June 23: White Sox CF Happy Felsch handles a record-tying 12 chances, in a season forever tarnished by the Black Sox Scandal
- September 24: Red Sox LF Babe Ruth hits his 28th home run to set the single-season home run record
- September 28: In the shortest game in major league history, the Giants beat the Reds, 6-1, in 51 minutes.
The 1919 information was first made available online last November by Retrosheet, an all-volunteer nonprofit organization comprised largely of SABR members. Retrosheet president David W. Smith — a 2005 recipient of the Bob Davids Award, SABR’s highest honor — credited the following people with helping to get the 1919 data into a usable form: Greg Antolick, Clem Comly, Mike Grahek, Howard Johnson, Ryan Jones, Dave Lamoureaux, Walter LeConte, Dan Lee, Jack Myers, Tom Ruane, and Ron Weaver.
As Smith notes, “These files require the digitization of data from microfilmed images of official records, which are then combined with lineup data from newspapers to generate the completed box scores.”
