Jerry Malloy Negro League Conference accepting submissions for 2014 Art Contest

The fifth annual Jerry Malloy Negro League Conference Art Contest is now accepting applications in three categories: professional, amateur and youth. Art from the winners and runners-up will be on display in a special area at the Malloy Conference, scheduled for August 14-16, 2014, in Detroit, Michigan.

The winning entry in the professional and amateur categories will receive a $300 prize and a certificate. The winning entry in the youth category will receive $150 and a certificate.

  • Cost: $30 for up to 3 JPG entries; $10 for youth. Make your check out to “SABR.”
  • Deadline for submissions: May 26, 2014

Winners will be notified within three weeks of the deadline. Winners will be responsible for shipping their art and return shipment; and for sending a biography/photo of themselves and a short description of the winning piece for publicity and display purposes. Publicity for artists will include Facebook, website, t-shirts, and more. Photos of the art will also be included in an upcoming issue of Black Ball: A Negro Leagues Journal, published by McFarland & Co.
