The new book, “In Pursuit of Pennants: Baseball Operations from Deadball to Moneyball” from Dan Levitt and Mark Armour explores how we got to the point of the superstar GM.

Levitt joined Enquirer Reds beat writer C. Trent Rosecrans last week at the SABR Analytics Convention to talk about how the general manager’s role has changed over time, as well as his rankings on his blog of the Top 25 general managers of all time, including current Reds General Manager Walt Jocketty, who comes in at No. 15. Bob Howsam, GM of the Big Red Machine, is No. 4.
