Briggs: Cleveland Indians on the mind of Toledo mayoral candidate

From David Briggs at the Toledo Blade on September 8, 2017, with mention of SABR member Wade Kapszukiewicz:

Balancing the budget. Assuring clean and affordable water. … Eliminating the designated hitter.

If Wade Kapszukiewicz is elected mayor of Toledo, he pledges to do all that and more.

OK, maybe that last promise is beyond his purview.

But rest assured he would make those freeloading American League pitchers hit if he could.

Turns out, the Lucas County Treasurer has ideas for our city and our pastime — not to mention dreams for his beloved and suddenly indomitable Cleveland Indians, who go for the first-round sweep tonight in New York against the Yankees.

Consider this a public service column. If we are interested in drawing the fullest picture of our candidates, the story of Kapszukiewicz is not complete without baseball.
