Adams-Wade: Dallas event to commemorate Negro League pitcher Bill Blair Jr.

The legacy of the irrepressible William “Bill” Blair Jr. continues to leave an impact through youth and adult baseball activities in Dallas.
Blair was a Dallas-born Negro Leagues pitcher who influenced others through sports, publishing, and behind-the-scenes political involvement. He died Easter morning April 20, 2014, at age 92, but he packed several lifetimes of activities into those nine-plus decades.
The free fifth annual Bill Blair Day will commemorate his Oct. 17, 1921, birth and celebrate the sports part of his crowded life through youth and family activities — including softball — at the park named in his honor. The Dallas Park and Recreation Board approved renaming Rochester Park in Blair’s honor in 2011 and dedicated the renovated park in 2013.
