There are plenty of reasons to fall in love with the curveball. There’s the shape, first of all, and the jelly-kneed reaction it inspires. There’s the fact that only the sinker coaxes more groundballs, and that, among secondary pitches, there’s no pitch that’s better for a called strike. It has been a baseball stalwart for years, for good reason.
But what if there was a superior way to throw the curve, one so different that some tracking websites broke it out into its own pitch type? Say hello to the knuckle curve.
