Gleeman: Shohei Ohtani in the first 162 games

Shohei Ohtani‘s hitting hasn’t gotten nearly enough attention.

I understand why that probably is — he was billed first and foremost as an ace-level pitcher, he hits in the shadow of Mike Trout, and before he’d even played a regular-season game anonymous scouts were loudly proclaiming that he wouldn’t be an impact hitter — but Tuesday night Ohtani played his 162nd career MLB game as a position player and … well, .290/.358/.556 is pretty damn good.

Among all major-league hitters with at least 162 games played since the beginning of last season, Ohtani ranks 12th in OPS.
