Going into this season, the Nationals had never won a postseason series. Now they’re up against a team that is threatening dynasty status in Houston in what should be a compelling World Series.
While the Astros should be a favorite — FanGraphs has them a 70/30 favorite, even — there are some reasons that this could be a closer-fought match than those odds indicate. Some of the things that make Houston great are based on depth in the lineup and the pitching staff, and depth isn’t as important when it comes to a best-of-seven series.
If you’re talking star power, the two rotations and lineups are decently matched. And if you’re talking storylines, here are five key aspects of the coming series to keep in mind.
