Flack: D.C. sports hall of famer Doc White

When Doc White pitched five consecutive shutouts in 1904 for the Chicago White Stockings, he set a record that lasted for 64 years. Born and raised in Washington and educated at Central High School, White was probably one of the few dentists to play major league baseball while pulling teeth during the offseason to support his family. If that were not unusual enough, he also performed in vaudeville and helped organize a quasi-union for baseball players. As an educator and coach, Doc White influenced generations of Washington public school students.
