Hodermarsky: Baseball in the time of coronavirus

While many of my friends are tackling home improvement or maintenance projects with the extended time allotted by the pandemic, I chose to accomplish something other than painting a bedroom, cleaning the garage, or raking the leaves I missed in fall. Instead, I composed what turned out to be a 13-page bibliography of the approximately 300 books in my baseball library. Practical? Probably not. Rewarding? You bet.
With the real possibility that we might not have a baseball season, pulling these baseball books from the shelves and thumbing through the pages has been bittersweet. On the one hand, I have savored reacquainting myself with a game which has no peer. The books span all eras of the game. The great players and unforgettable personalities are well represented. Books about ballparks, baseball cards, uniforms, bats, and balls have found homes in my bookcases. The tightly packed baseball memoirs, biographies, histories, reference books, novels, and poetry spill onto each other and sometimes onto the floor — a baseball reader’s cornucopia.
