Mike Sowell

Mike Sowell grew up in Houston but became a Red Sox fan at age nine when he got his first baseball card: a 1957 Tom Brewer. He still pulls for the Red Sox, along with his hometown Houston Astros and his adopted Cleveland Indians, so he knows what suffering is all about. He is the author of The Pitch That Killed, July 2, 1903 and One Pitch Away, and has been a member of SABR since 1985. He now is an associate professor of journalism at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and he lives in Tulsa with with his wife, Ellen, and his dogs, all named for former baseball greats.
