Informal discussions took place as members filed in; the meeting was called to order at 6:20 PM. The first order of business was to present the Chapter’s MLB Prediction Contest Trophy to Jeff Lickson for safekeeping during the next 12 months, Jeff having scored well in the earlier rounds and correctly picked the Astros to win it all. He outdistanced other members in the Chapter’s complex yet completely logical scoring system for the contest.
General discussion topics included the offseason signings including Aaron Judge’s return to the Yankees, Jacob deGrom to the Rangers, and Justin Verlander to the Mets. We speculated on the future homes of other notable players for 2023 and beyond.
Gar Chisenhall correctly answered the “Who Am I?” quiz, identifying the player described by the clues as Lou Gehrig.
Restructuring of the Chapter was discussed, including the new position of Vice President and new Communications Directors Brent Kallestad and Renee Watters.
Fred McGriff’s election to the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Contemporary Era Committee was largely consistent with chapter members’ predictions and met with approval. Considerable attention was given to the upcoming election by the BBWAA and we were encouraged to transmit our predictions to Chuck before the results are announced.
We turned out attention to upcoming rule changes for MLB 2023, agreeing that the results will be interesting at the very least.
New SABR member Brian Logan introduced himself and was welcomed into the fold.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:00 PM.
