Juan Marichal Chapter meeting recap – 11/2/2016

Seventeen SABR members and friends gathered with the Juan Marichal Chapter on the night of Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at the 121st Nicolas Ureña de Mendoza place in Los Prados, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, to watch Game Seven of the World Series between the Indians and the Cubs. It was an unforgettable night.

Domingo Jimenes, who was the leader of the group taking part in our “April Fool’s” prediction contest with 8 points, among the five that predicted the Cubs will win the World Series, had more at stake than anybody. If the Cubs lost, there would be no winners of the contest prize. The loudest explosion of noise happened in the eighth inning with the home run by the Indians that tied up the game at 6-6. Domingo turned pale. Then came the rain delay. We did not know how long it was going to be and the group became collectively anxious. Fortunately it was a short one.

Then came the memorable 10th inning. When the Cubs finally won, we all congratulated Domingo who regained his composure.

There will be a final chapter meeting this year to give Domingo his plaque and reward for his predictions.

He won by one point over the other four members that predicted the Cubs will win it all, because he was the only one to predict the Indians would win the AL Central Division, although he did not predict they would reach the World Series.
