Ken Keltner Badger State Chapter meeting recap – 5/9/2015

Three presenters entertained and informed the Ken Keltner Badger State Chapter on Saturday, May 9, 2015, in Milwaukee.

Joe Niese, who has authored books on Wisconsin ballplayers Burleigh Grimes and Andy Pafko, highlighted the careers of both players.

Mary Shea traced Women in Baseball, dating back to 1866 when Vassar College fielded two teams. Featured were Maud Nelson, who played and organized some barnstorming teams that often played against men’s teams, Lizzie Arlington, who signed the first pro contract, and several members of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League.

Rick Schabowski reviewed the 1979 anti-disco night at Comiskey Park. The event, held between games of a doubleheader, destroyed the field and led to the White Sox forfeiting the second game.
