Larry Dierker Chapter meeting recap – 6/12/2023
The night after the Astros finished off the longest consecutive game stretch of the season, 45 people joined in person at the Spaghetti Western Italian Restaurant and via Zoom for the June 12, 2023, Larry Dierker Houston SABR Chapter Meeting.
Chapter President Joe Thompson reminded all that there would not be a chapter meeting in July because of SABR 51. The next chapter meeting will be on August 28. The chapter is working on group tickets for the Astros August 12 game where chapter member Bill Brown will be inducted into the Astros Hall of Fame along with Bill Doran.
Chapter member Lucha Rodriguez brought a few sample shirts (Polo and T-shirts) with our chapter logo. Lucha is still taking orders from those interested in purchasing shirts.
Bailey Hall, a rising junior in high school and a lifelong baseball fan was the featured speaker for the evening. She is a huge Cubs fan. Bailey is a member of the Rogers Hornsby SABR Chapter of SABR, and she currently works for the RoundRock Express. Bailey offered a presentation on the history of statistics in baseball, and how much technology has changed how the game is watched and analyzed.
Chris Chestnut gave a very brief presentation that he put together on Larry Dierker’s only no-hitter. Included is the radio broadcast of the 9th inning with a short interview at the end. Larry Dierker then spoke with the group a bit about that night.
There was a three-way tie for the trivia contest last night. Koby Farries, David Hilton, and John Lloyd won! Koby Farries will present the trivia contest for us at our next meeting in August!
