Sweet Lou Johnson Lexington Chapter meeting recap – 4/16/2018
On Saturday, April 14, 2018, members of the Sweet Lou Johnson Lexington Chapter gathered for our chapter’s second meeting at the Eastside Branch of the Lexington Public Library in Lexington, Kentucky. SABR member Ginger Baker welcomed baseball fans to the meeting and invited everyone to introduce themselves by sharing a memory of their favorite game.
Our guest speaker was Jerry Sudduth, catcher and historian for the Bluegrass Barons Vintage Base Ball Club. He presented on Vintage Base Ball in Central Kentucky during the years 1860 to 1920. Jerry’s presentation fascinated all the baseball fans in attendance and we hope he comes back again to share more vintage base ball. The group made plans to attend a vintage base ball game at Waveland.
Chapter Liaison Cindy Baker shared research opportunities with the group. She highlighted various research tools available to SABR members on sabr.org. Several baseball fans expressed interest in becoming involved in this research.
SABR member Ginger Baker spoke to the group about officer elections. SABR members were invited to nominate themselves or others for officer positions, including the “Manager” (chapter president) and the “Bench Coach” (chapter vice president). The election of officers will occur at our May meeting on Thursday, May 17 (6:30 to 8:30 p.m.) Baseball fan Tammy Ramsey collected the Trivia Prize — two “anytime tickets” to see the Lexington Legends play baseball!
The next meeting of the Sweet Lou Johnson Lexington chapter will be Thursday May 17, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Baseball fans will gather at the Eastside Branch of the Lexington Public Library. Hope you’ll join us!
