Burgos: Joaquin Andujar was a true Latino baseball legend

From SABR member Adrian Burgos Jr. at The Sporting News on September 10, 2015:

I was born too late to see Juan Marichal at his magisterial best; the Dominican Dandy who bewildered batters with his high-leg kick, array of pitches and angles and steely determination to succeed.

I did get to see the second coming of Marichal in Pedro Martínez’s dominating pitching during the 1990s and 2000s.

In between, there was Joaquin Andujar.

Andujar had presence on the mound.

He didn’t mind showing his emotion, his jubilation or frustration. Indeed, Andujar was unabashed in being passionate, effusive in praising his teammates, dejected when things didn’t go his or the Cardinals’ way. Fans watching him from the stands or from the comfort of their homes on the television screen could almost feel what his emotions as he pitched.
