Firstman: Unique first names in the 2014 season

Given the ever-expanding world upon which Major League Baseball casts its scouting net, it shouldn’t be a surprise to note the growing uniqueness of player names. Just this season, we had big league debuts from players born in Taiwan, Cuba, Venezuela and Germany, to name a few “home fields”.

Here is the complete list of unique first names that debuted in 2014:

These 30 names brings to roughly 2,237 the “one and only” unique first names in MLB history.  I’m not going to list them all here, but I will link to a Google Drive spreadsheet that has the debut year and first name (along with alphabetical last name in case of more than one in same debut season).
