Gary Belleville wins 2024 McFarland-SABR Baseball Research Award
The 2024 winner of the McFarland-SABR Baseball Research Award, which honors the best articles on baseball history or biography completed or published during the preceding calendar year, is:
- Gary Belleville, “The Trailblazing Canadian Trio That Powered the Rockford Peaches Dynasty of 1948-50,” Journal of Canadian Baseball / Revue du Baseball Canadien, November 1, 2023.
Belleville is a retired information technology professional living in Victoria, British Columbia. He has written a variety of articles for SABR’s Baseball Research Journal, Games Project, and Baseball Biography Project.
Honorable mention goes to:

The McFarland-SABR Baseball Research Award honors the author(s) of the best articles or papers, published or unpublished, on baseball history or biography completed during the preceding calendar year. Eligible works include magazine and journal articles, previously unpublished chapters or articles in anthologies or other books with multiple authors, and unpublished research papers and written versions of oral presentations.
The selection committee included Don Zminda (chair), Barbara Mantegani, and Stephanie Liscio. In addition, Tom Hufford chaired the selection committee until stepping down in late 2023.
