Grimes: A salute to SABR member and Arkansas Sports HOFer Jim Rasco

Too often, we wait to write nice things about people until they are dead.

So I’m going to devote this column, and some future columns, to writing about some really nice guys, and gals, while they are still around to read it.

I’ll start with Jim Rasco. His name might not immediately ring a bell to a lot of people in Faulkner County, but he is one heck of a nice guy. Smart too. He is a CPA and a partner in a Little Rock accounting firm that bears his name.

Rasco is a native of DeWitt and was a very talented multisport athlete for the Dragons. He came to Conway to attend Hendrix, where he lettered in basketball and track and graduated in 1963. Rasco was inducted into the Hendrix College Sports Hall of Honor in 2006.

Earlier this month, he was inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame. He was a fine athlete, but he was mostly inducted for his lifetime as a sports historian.
