Hedelt: Baseball lover uses history and insights for Virginia-Born Project blog

I interviewed an interesting writer about her unique baseball blog recently, and was starting to get nervous because I hadn’t gotten it in the paper before the World Series was done.
Not to worry, said Jackie Howell, who lives in Madison County and calls herself “The Baseball Blogess” because her site mixes baseball commentary with the game’s history and uses the sport as a lens on life.
“Some people think that baseball lives in a discrete box of games that are played from April through October,” said Howell. “But, that’s not it at all. Baseball season is like the seasons on a calendar. Fall and winter are quieter, true, but they are important, nonetheless.”
