Landers: Bogaerts punctuates ‘Little League grand slam’ with one heck of a slide into home

These are high times for the Little League home run — Kris Bryant got the tomfoolery started off back in April, and the Yakety Sax reel has only grown (and grown) since, with the Society for American Baseball Research even polling the nation to determine exactly which plays deserve the honor.
But any trend requires pioneers, ones who push the boundary and elevate the art form with their own personal flair. Xander Bogaerts is one such man. When he smacked a bases-loaded double down the right-field line during the Red Sox’s 9-2 win over the Phillies, he smartly advanced to third on the throw home. And when that throw got away from catcher Carlos Ruiz, Bogaerts wasn’t content with just completing the Little League home run — he was determined to do so with style and a little sliding wizardry.
