Marlins’ Freefall Now At A Historic Pace

The Florida Marlins‘ freefall is now historic.

It took them 26 games in 27 days to go from a season-best 10 games over .500 (30-20) to a season-worst 10 games under (33-43) following Friday’s late 5-1 loss to Felix Hernandez and the Mariners at Safeco Field.

According to Society of American Baseball Research member Frank Vaccaro, the Marlins’ slide from 10 over to 10 under is the steepest in baseball history in terms of days. That distinction formerly belonged to the 1999 Philadelphia Phillies, who needed 38 days from Aug. 13-Sept. 20 to make the same plunge. Seven other teams have gone from 10 over to 10 under in 49 days or fewer.
