Neuharth: Baseball replays are musts during playoffs

 Last week I saluted baseball Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig and said he scored a home run by adding two additional wild card teams to the major league playoffs. Interest in the playoffs and World Series is higher than it ever has been.

But this week Selig gets a strikeout for continuing to ban replays, even after second base umpire Jeff Nelson admitted he blew a call that led to two Detroit Tiger runs in the eighth inning of their 3-0 win over the Yankees in the second game of their American League Championship Series.

Selig says he doesn’t want replays to delay the game. Actually, a replay in the Detroit-New York game would have taken less time than the arguments over that call, which resulted in Yankee Manager Joe Girardi being tossed from the game.
