Bobby Valentine’s time with the Red Sox has been maligned plenty, while John Farrell’s installment has been rightly celebrated.

The contrast between the two was highlighted again Sunday, on the second and final day of Sabermetrics, Scouting and the Science of Baseball — an exquisite seminar held at Boston University for the benefit of the Jimmy Fund.

The event again brought out some of the best academic minds from in and outside of the game, including Red Sox front-office personnel like Tom Tippett, Ben Crockett, Jared Porter and Gus Quattlebaum. Media members such as Keith Law, Dave Cameron (FanGraphs) and Ben Lindbergh (Baseball Prospectus) were on-hand, as was former major-league pitcher Brian Bannister.

All ticket sale proceeds were donated to the Jimmy Fund. Farrell, like Valentine last year, gave his time to the cause with a question-and-answer session. Dan Brooks, who runs and co-organizes the event, estimated $20,000 was raised.
