APRIL 28, 2025 — The Irish American Baseball Society and the Society for American Baseball Research have announced a new partnership designed to advance the missions of each organization. The collaboration will include virtual events and a forthcoming book project that documents the Irish impact on the game of baseball.
“This is an exciting milestone for our organization,” said John Fitzgerald, Founder of the Irish American Baseball Society. “The Society for American Baseball Research is widely respected for its work, and we’re pleased to collaborate with SABR and its members to highlight the Irish contributions to baseball history.”
The book, titled The Irish Diaspora and America’s Game, will feature biographies of Irish immigrant and Irish American players, managers, media figures, and executives — organized by Irish provinces and counties. The book is tentatively scheduled for publication in the spring of 2027.
“Baseball’s story includes the myriad contributions of the Irish,” said SABR CEO Scott Bush. “From the early days of the game to the present, Irish players, coaches, and executives have helped shape baseball’s history and culture. We’re proud to partner with the Irish American Baseball Society to help shine a light on this legacy.”
The partnership will include cross-promotion of each organization’s events and initiatives, to promote a deeper understanding of baseball history and Irish culture. The organizations will also work together to highlight the benefits of membership in each organization.
