SABR Day January 29 Brings Baseball Fans Together

More than 30 meetings scheduled across North America for second annual SABR Day.

On Saturday, January 29, 2011, members of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) will come together to celebrate SABR and all things baseball. From San Francisco to Boston and Montreal to Puerto Rico, an estimated 800 SABR members will attend one of more than 30 scheduled meetings across North America.

Among the highlights: The San Francisco and Sacramento chapters will visit AT&T Park for a glimpse of the World Series trophy. The Denver Chapter has planned “a massive game of catch in the parking lot.” The Milwaukee Chapter will welcome Brewers General Manager Doug Melvin. The Houston chapter will include among its guests former players Larry Dierker, Jimmy Wynn, Larry Miggins, and Monte Irvin. A complete list of chapter and member events is available on the SABR website. All times are local times on January 29, 2011.

Approximately 10% of the membership attends SABR’s national convention each year, making local chapters a key part of the nationwide (and worldwide) community of baseball fans who are at the heart of SABR. SABR Day is an alternative to gathering members in one place by having as many members as possible come together on the same day—regardless of where they live. Every SABR Day gathering is open to all baseball fans; SABR membership is not required.
