SABR Encyclopedia partners with Baseball-Reference.com Bullpen to form online baseball research repository

The SABR Encyclopedia and the Baseball-Reference.com Bullpen are combining their vast repositories of baseball knowledge under one roof with the new SABR/Baseball-Reference Encyclopedia.

Continuing a longstanding partnership, SABR and Sports Reference, LLC, have decided to merge their baseball research wiki sites and organize their collective baseball knowledge online. Thanks to the diligent efforts of Sean Lahman and the community of editors at both sites, SABRpedia entries such as the Spread of Baseball Project and the Collegiate Baseball Database are now available in the same place as the Bullpen’s detailed histories of Negro League teams and minor league players.

The new SABR/Baseball-Reference Encyclopedia can be accessed at SABRpedia.org or Baseball-Reference.com.

“No one has more breadth and depth of baseball knowledge than the members of SABR,” said Sean Forman, President of Sports Reference, LLC. “It’s an honor for Sports Reference to have the chance to work with them in cataloging this knowledge and making it available for the public to use and learn from. The Bullpen already has 70,000 pages and I feel that with SABR and its members’ involvement we are poised to make this the primary repository of baseball knowledge in the world.”

Who can use the SABR/Baseball-Reference Encyclopedia? Anyone. With a little collective effort, the Encyclopedia can become the best place to find information about baseball. All content posted in the Encyclopedia is licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License, meaning that people using or copying this material must attribute it properly and must share any derivative products with the same license. We welcome input from editors and contributors to the SABRpedia and Bullpen sites, and encourage you to continue advancing our collective knowledge of baseball in the new SABR/Baseball-Reference Encyclopedia. As with all wikis, editors and contributors are the lifeblood of the site, and we look forward to combining the best of both worlds with SABR and Baseball-Reference.com.
