Patience and power made Singleton one of baseball’s premier switch-hitters during his decorated 15-year career in the major leagues. After beginning with the New York Mets and Montreal Expos, he became a three-time All-Star right fielder for the Orioles and the designated hitter for Baltimore’s 1983 World Series champions. After retiring as a player, Singleton became a popular Yankees broadcaster from 1997 to 2021.

The SABR Oral History Collection includes more than 750 interviews conducted with ballplayers (Major Leagues, Minor Leagues, Negro Leagues, AAGBBL), executives, scouts, authors, writers, broadcasters, and other figures of historical baseball significance. Learn more at SABR.org/oralhistory.
