SABR member Joe Niese wins book award from INDIEFAB

Chippewa Falls Public Library Director Joe Niese’s book was recently named a 2015 INDIEFAB Book of the Year Awards bronze winner.

“Handy Andy: The Andy Pafko Story” was one of nearly 2,000 entries in the Foreword Reviews’ 18th annual INDIEFAB Book of the Year Awards.

Niese’s book was a bronze winner in the sports (adult nonfiction) category.

According to a press release, the winners in 66 categories are considered the year’s “best books published by independent publishers, university presses and self-published authors.” The winners were announced at the American Library Association Annual Conference.

In addition to being a librarian, Niese is a member of the Society for American Baseball Research. He has written two books, “Burleigh Grimes: Baseball’s Last Legal Spitballer” and “Handy Andy: The Andy Pafko Story,” and his baseball articles have appeared in both “The National Pastime” and “Nine: A Journal of Baseball History and Culture.”
