SABR member named Reds Historian

Congratulations to SABR member Greg Rhodes who was recently named team historian for the Cincinnati Reds and executive director of the team’s Museum and Hall of Fame.

According to the Reds organization, The museum will be a year-around attraction, featuring traditional exhibits and state-of-the-art video and interactive displays showcasing the history of baseball’s oldest profes

Congratulations to SABR member Greg Rhodes who was recently named team historian for the Cincinnati Reds and executive director of the team’s Museum and Hall of Fame.

According to the Reds organization, The museum will be a year-around attraction, featuring traditional exhibits and state-of-the-art video and interactive displays showcasing the history of baseball’s oldest professional team.

Rhodes, 57, is a native of Richmond, IN and a lifelong Reds fan.  He worked for the Cincinnati Historical Society from 198-92 and was part of the team that planned the creation of the new history museum at Cincinnati’s Museum Center.  Rhodes is a former president of the board of Historic Southwest Ohio and is an active leader in the Hoyt-Allen Cincinnati chapter of SABR who is hosting this year’s national convention.  In addition, he currently is president of the
Cincinnati Red Stockings vintage baseball team.

Rhodes has co-authored six books on the Reds, including Opening Day: Celebrating Cincinnati’s Baseball Holiday (with John Erardi);  The First Boys of Summer:  The 1969-70 Cincinnati Red Stockings (with Erardi); Cincinnati’s Crosely Field:  The Illustrated History of a Classic Ballpark (with Erardi); Big Red Dynasty: How Bob Howsam and Sparky Anderson Built the Big Red Machine (with Erardi); Reds in Black And White: 100 Years of Cincinnati Reds Images (with Mark Stang) and Redleg Journal (with John Snyder).
