SABR’s Luis Castro Chapter: February 2015 scoring and sabermetrics workshop in Maracay, Venezuela

SABR’s Luis Castro/Latin America Chapter continues its Official Scoring and Sabermetrics workshop with:

Maracay, Aragua

This time, the city of Maracay, Venezuela, will host the workshop at the Jose Bernardo Perez stadium, home of the passionate fandom of Tigres de Aragua of the Venezuelan Winter League. The Luis Castro Chapter continues to expand on Spanish-language activities in Latin American countries.

The Official Scoring and Sabermetrics Workshop will embrace participants into the techniques and official baseball rules of scorekeeping and provide and detailed explanation and examples of advanced stats. In addition, participants will be immersed into debates of ruling cases of analysis and the role of the scorekeeper in official pro baseball games. This course is intended to help community professionals in the areas of baseball, softball and kickball.

Here are the times for the workshop in Maracay:

  • Friday, February 6: 4:00-8:00 p.m.    
  • Saturday/Sunday, February 7-8: 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

The workshop will be guided by instructor Gil Reyes, Director for Venezuela for SABR’s Luis Castro Latin American Chapter. Reyes is a head official scorer for the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League and a former president of the Federation of Venezuelan Sports Scorekeepers. His experience includes 40 seasons in Venezuela, Caribbean Series, World Baseball Classics, and MLB International Exhibition Games.

Tadeo Varela, member of and alumni of the Sabermetrics course from the University of Boston, will conduct a lecture on the Sunday program on use of advanced stats during the MLB season and the Venezuelan League.
