Not only is velocity the No. 1 predictor of future success in a general way — part of why velocity is a trend in the game as well as the first round of the MLB draft — but it’s also true in a very specific way. There’s evidence that small changes in velocity, game to game, can predict a pitcher’s hot streak game to game.
So there’s nothing easier than looking at which starting pitchers are showing better numbers on the gun than they did last year — and in a short week, easy is the key word. Here are your top 15 velocity surgers among starting pitchers that have thrown 50 innings this year and threw more than 20 innings before the break last year.
