Sarris: The unique brilliance of Hyun-Jin Ryu

Hyun-Jin Ryu is killing it. No matter how you look at it — through ERA (best among qualified starters), WAR (fifth-best), or wins (second-best) — Ryu was among the league leaders heading into Tuesday’s start.
Is that a little weird to think about? He hovers around ninety miles per hour on his fastball, and doesn’t fill up the twitterverse with lusty pitch GIFs, but when he’s been on the mound, the results have been there. In the era of high-nineties fastballs, it’s fair to wonder how he powers his particular brilliance.
In the middle of talking to Ross Stripling about the death of the fastball count, the Dodgers pitcher admitted something about his teammate that might surprise some people.
