Stark: What we could have learned in April

The year was 1883. The best pitcher in baseball was Old Hoss Radbourn. The Philadelphia Quakers won 17 games all season — or 31 fewer than Old Hoss won by himself.
So why the heck should you care about 1883 right now? Only because 1883 has something totally bizarre in common with 2020. What was the last year before this one when we went through the entire month of April without a single major-league baseball game? Right you are. That was 1883.
